6 Roles of AI and Energy Transition

OPINIONI just signed up on the openai.com ChatGPT and the first testable question that came to my mind on this newly launched AI chatbot was on the role AI which the chatbot represent plays in energy transition— at first I doubted how knowledgeable or accurate the ChatGPT could be on the subject matter and so I carelessly typed ‘AI and Energy Transition’ on the dialog and also typed ‘Roles AI play in Energy Transition’ on another search dialog.

 

If you are still wondering or asking what OpenAI ChatGPT is all about, now here’s all that you need to know about it.

 

ChatGPT is a chatbot/dialog AI that uses a large language model trained with reinforcement learning and is based on the GPT-3.5 architecture. Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT has already attracted attention for its detailed and concise responses and of course it is not without criticisms, but that’s not the purpose of this article.

 

In a bid to satisfy my curiosity on the accuracy of the already popular and wave making ChatGPT by OpenAI, I jumped on to relating it with one of the futuristic transformations and innovation of the world— Energy Transition. The idea was to determine how concise the chatbot could be on topics around AI and Energy Transition, so I rolled out two questions to the chatbot and I was not disappointed at all.

 

ChatGPT first response on AI and Energy Transition

Artificial intelligence (AI) can play a significant role in the energy transition by helping to optimise energy systems, reduce energy consumption, and improve the integration of renewable energy sources. For example, AI can be used to predict and optimise energy demand, improve the efficiency of power plants, and control the integration of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power into the grid. AI can also be used to monitor and predict the performance of energy storage systems, such as batteries, and to optimise the use of electric vehicles for grid balancing.

 

Overall, AI can help to make energy systems more efficient, reliable, and sustainable.

 

Not being super convinced yet, i guess the doubting Thomas in me needed to be convinced more so I had to take it a little bit further by asking the ChatGPT to analyse the roles AI is most likely to play in Energy Transition.

 

This second response was more detailed and convincing.

Overall, AI can help make renewable energy systems more efficient, improve the management of energy storage and distribution, and reduce emissions from industrial processes.

 

My opinion and take

With an almost accurate information about the role AI can play in energy transition shared by CHATGPT through its chatbot/dialog AI; information assimilation, knowledge sharing, research hacks and practise could be made easy and a lot easier with just one line of message or question on any subject matter and; energy trends, transition or energy asset and information can not be left behind.
